‘Calling Dr. Bombay!’ St. James Emergency Docs Outsource Billing

I just hung up the phone with India.
I received a phone call regarding a bill I received for emergency room services in February at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights.  When I returned the call, I was greeted by a kind person with a slight accent.  I couldn’t quite place the accent, but didn’t think [...]

Mayor Daley Needs a News “Pool Boy”

Chicago Tribune columnist John Kass reported Friday that Chicago’s airport operations boss Dave “Pool Boy” Ochal threw his political weight around last week when his neighborhood faced a power outage:
Ochal’s Far Northwest Side neighborhood was without power for two days in the summer heat. Neighbors dug into their own pockets to pay for emergency generators [...]

John Ray’s Box of Human Bones

I really don’t get this guy at all.
Park Forest resident John Ray still has his box of human bones.
Recall Ray’s tale of how he came by the remains:
Ray said he bought the grisly collection, albeit accidentally, at an estate auction in Shipshewana, Ind. There he bought a tattered, 150-year-old book titled “The History of the [...]

Two in Chicago won’t see July 4

I guess I don’t understand the charm of handguns.
From the Chicago Tribune:
Two people were shot, one in the head in the Loop late Thursday as thousands of people streamed out of downtown after the city’s Fourth of July fireworks display and the Taste of the Chicago.
Both shootings occurred about 10:40 p.m. roughly a block apart, [...]

Government Snoops on Celeb. Passports: Happy Independence Day!

This story from The Washington Post (in block text) is presented with appropriate passages from The Declaration of Independence (italics).  Enjoy.
Government workers repeatedly snooped without authorization inside the electronic passport records of entertainers, athletes and other high-profile Americans, a State Department audit has found. One celebrity’s records were breached 356 times by more than six [...]

Three young women were shot…

The sad news from today’s Chicago Sun-Times:
Three young women were shot and wounded while sitting on a porch early Sunday on the South Side.
Officers responded to a person shot at 2:20 a.m. at the 2900 block of East 87th Street and found three females, 16, 18 and 20, who were shot on a porch, according [...]

David Brooks is an idiot

For some reason, I used to enjoy reading David Brooks in the New York Times. I don’t know why. He’s a smart guy. Perhaps it’s my liberal leanings that cause me to thirst for news from all perspectives, not permitting myself to be limited to one point of view.
Brooks’ mere presence in [...]

Pfleger Pflummoxes with Pfustian Prelection

Archbishop George must have turned Cardinal red.
What was the Rev. Michael Pfleger thinking? Was he jealous of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright? Did he really want to make his debut on the world stage on You Tube?
Pfleger’s rant was juvenile and sad:
”I really don’t believe it was put on,” Pfleger said. ”I really believe that [...]

Will Bush free George Ryan?

Former Illinois Governor George Ryan received bleak news today as the United States Supreme Court refused to hear his appeal. According to the Sun-Times:
Ryan was convicted in April 2006 of steering contracts to lobbyists and other friends, tax fraud, misuse of tax dollars and state workers and squelching an investigation of links between bribery [...]

Obama’s “Sweetie” Nightmare

Barack Obama called reporter Peggy Agar “Sweetie,” and now he’s apologizing for it. That bodes well for America. We have yet to hear the first apology from George “Great job, Brownie” Bush.
This is all absurd, yet another sanctimonious diversion from real-world issues.
Saying “Sweetie” is so “Chicago” of Senator Obama.
I moved here from Pittsburgh in [...]
