Eight years ago, Barack Obama requested a pass to attend the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles.

He was denied.

Four years ago, Barack Obama gave an electric address at the Democratic National Convention in Boston.

Tonight, the man accepted the nomination of the Democratic Party — and how.

I was riveted watching MSNBC this evening as Pat Buchanan actually had to be cut off for a commercial break as he fought to quote Obama’s speech this evening.  I don’t think it’s safe to say Hell has frozen over, but even Pat Buchanan was captivated by Obama.

Buchanan was captivated by these lines, as was I:

The men and women who serve in our battlefields may be Democrats and Republicans and Independents, but they have fought together and bled together and some died together under the same proud flag. They have not served a Red America or a Blue America – they have served the United States of America.

Never in my wildest dreams or nightmares did I ever think I would be on the same side of history as Pat Buchanan.  It was actually touching to watch him read Barack’s words.

What an incredibly awesome night.
